Calling all vegetarians…be honest with us, how often do you do any of the following:
If you can relate to any of these statements, you (my fellow vegetarian) are not alone.
We know that it can take a lot of effort to find the meals or food spots that cater to your cravings.
But here's the good news - we've done the research for you. With our top ten list of delicious vegetarian meal options, you can enjoy trying them all around the Rutgers campus.
Here are some solid vegetarian options you can explore on Elevate at Rutgers. Let’s dive in.
Healthy, hearty, and the right amount of sweet - you really can't go wrong with the Fruit and Nut Oatmeal from Fritz's. It makes for a perfectly balanced breakfast with delicious oats, maple syrup, and dried fruits. We recommend this oatmeal if you want to start the day with energy!
Are you craving a mouth-watering salad? Then look no further, the Shaved Brussels Sprouts Salad from Fritz's is what salad dreams were made of, especially if you're a fan of brussels sprouts. You get shaved brussels sprouts topped with dried cranberries and an unforgettable sherry-maple vinaigrette. If it sounds good now, wait until you actually try it. You won't be able to get enough.
No matter what time of the day it is, it's never a bad idea to get an omelet! It's savory, nutritious and packed with flavor. Especially if it's the Garden Omelette from Knight's Express. You get fresh veggies that give a nice crunch with every bite. This can be a great go-to if you're thinking of what to eat next.
It's a classic for a reason! We know that bruschetta can be shared with the whole table but have you tried ordering it for one? We did, and it's hard not to want to do it again and again. The fresh tomatoes, red onion, and tangy balsamic all come together perfectly in the Bruschetta from George Street Ale House. We could go on, but there are some things you need to taste for yourself.
Savory and sweet is a hard combo to beat! We honestly can't think of anything better. So naturally, the Apple & Goat Cheese Salad from George Street Ale is a great choice because it has just that. If you're already a cheese lover, then consider this meal right up your alley. It's got goat cheese, toasted almonds, and sliced green apples, plus a raspberry balsamic vinaigrette that takes this meal to the next level. It's got everything you would want in a salad and more.
There are days when you just want to bite into a good sub and trust us - we can relate. Which is why we're happy that Jersey Subs is close by. Their 1/2 Veggie Sub also comes with a drink and a choice of potato salad or coleslaw, making it a stellar combo. If you're looking for a filling and delicious meal, that's what you're getting here.
Get excited about breakfast when you try the Cheese Omelette from Jersey Subs. They don't just stop at the eggs, you also get hashbrowns, toast, and coffee. It's a filling meal that gives you a headstart on your day, and who knows, you may want to get it again the next day. We've definitely done the same!
On days when you want to treat yourself to something sweet, you can visit Kenny's Cafe for their Strawberry Nutella Smooth. There's just something about this creamy, sweet, and fruity dessert that will keep you coming back. It's quickly become one of the spots at Rutgers that we frequently visit. You deserve it after a long study session, a test, or just cause you want it!
This egg salad is anything but simple! If you couldn't tell, we're big egg salad fans and it's all because of Kenny's Cafe. Everyone makes egg salad differently but the way they do it is special. They combine fresh veggies like carrots, jalapenos, olives, cucumbers and more onto a bed of romaine lettuce, and you get to choose the dressing.
A spoonful of hot and delicious chili sounds like a dream, and if we want to visit cloud 9 we're getting the Vegetarian Chili from Harvest Moon Brewery! It comes in a crunchy tortilla bowl and is topped with savory cheeses that add to the taste. When you get their chili, your taste buds will thank you later.
Onions, please! If you're as passionate about onions as we are, then getting the French Onion Pale Ale Soup is a no-brainer. We simply can't get enough of the caramelized onions and that signature pale ale broth - need we say more? We have a feeling you may be ordering more of these in the future.
It's a Mediterranean medley in your mouth! We could go on and on about why we love the Falafel at Evelyn's restaurant. From the spices, herbs, and chickpea mixture to that tasty tahini sauce. They all come together so well to create an unforgettable flavor experience.
The next time you're at the Campus Deli, we recommend the Egg White Omelet Breakfast! The fresh and crunchy veggies add to the taste and make this a breakfast classic. Oh, and did we mention it’s also super healthy? Give it a try - it might become a staple in your morning routine!
We hope that our list of vegetarian spots around Rutgers has encouraged you to go forth and eat happily! Feel free to share your dining experience if you give any of these meals a try.
